The Gorman Goblet was donated by John and Di Gorman as they felt it was the only way they could win a trophy. The handicap system is quite intricate but involves black bandannas, shirts and shorts and extra handicaps for remaining married after the race
Kind words from Di & John Gorman
"Our Day at the CMYC
It was fabulous to be back in this beautiful spot in Sri Lanka for our 12th Gorman Goblet race.
We would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone (30+) for coming. It was so lovely to see some of our old friends, several of whom made a special effort to be there. It was also great to meet all the newer members.
As to the race there were 7 boats in total on the water. It was sailed in a very pleasant breeze and with the special Gorman handicap system. The winners were Jonquil and Simon with John and Mini second and Roshanara and Janaka third. We (Di and John) were of course in our usual last position!
After prizes and the cup were awarded we all settled down to a delicious curry lunch (prepared in advance by our very own club members). Many thanks to Mini and Sarah.
It was a fabulous day and we look forward to returning another year.
Thanks to all
Di and John"
Of course a big thank you to Di & John for sponsoring the race with generous prizes & food for sailors and supporters alike. We are all looking forward to the 13th Gorman Goblet already!!
Also thank you to Claudia & Paul for taking the time to record the event in pictures & of course to the team on the bridge for a determined start!! Kept all the sailors wide awake!!!
