The Junior Section sails Optimists, the
world's largest fleet, and has grown very
strongly in the last decade, thanks mainly
due to the efforts of Lalin Jinasingha,
and all those supportive parents. Some
Juniors have now progressed to Senior
level, giving those Stalwarts a very
good run for their money! Lalin has
represented Sri Lanka at World Class
level, winning a Bronze at the Asian
Games, so the children are in very competent
hands. Lalin is a stickler for safety and
operates a 3 level system: a - Beginner. For those who want to learn which way to go, what the different bits are called and want to have fun learning to sail. b - Intermediate. For those who want to progress or want to sail or race from time to time. c - Serious Racers. This is for those who have progressed to a good level and are developed into teams to represent the Club or Country, where they may have international racing opportunities. Instruction takes place on Saturdays with some racing on a Sunday, which coincides with the seniors. Contact Lalin on 0712 738 184 or club for details of the next training programmes. |
