Saturday saw some close racing in the opti class for the first day of the CMYC Opti open. There were 14 boats on the water. Girls and boys battled it out leaving two clear leaders, Dhanika and Tarini were tied in first place. The stage was set for another good day of sailing on the Sunday. As the sailors arrived at the club on Sunday the winds were once again howling across the lake. The helms and crews went off to rig their boats and by the time they were all ready the winds had dropped considerably. The decision was made to shorten both the opti course and the Fleet race course.
The Optis were off first followed by the rest of the fleet. No sooner had the boats crossed the line the wind began to build, the fleet race returned in under 45 minutes. Sehr & Chandima crossed the line first followed by Jonquil & Simon In second tying with Marc & then Duncan & Gail 2 seconds later.
In the final Tarini battled with Dhanika who once again was just slightly too good for the rest of the fleet. Udan Marapperuma took third Tarini de Silva took second and Dhanika Nanayakkara took first place.
After a short fleet race there was plenty of time for fun and games at the bar. Lunch was served and the club once again had its usual vibrant atmosphere.
It was a pleasure to see CMYCs youngest member, baby Ethen, out on the water with his proud parents flying around in their powerboat. After the awards ceremony Jonquil, another new member, presented the club with a burgee from her home club - The Royal Windermere Yacht Club. The Commodore received it and in return presented her club with the CMYC burgee with the promise we would display theirs with the many other burgees presented by guests from around the world.
All in all another good day at the club.
This Sunday there is the Intercontinental Trophy for BOD where the minimum combined PHC of helm and crew is 9. The helm in the first race crews in the second & there will be the usual Fleet Race. We are also pleased to inform you of the eagerly anticipated Ceylon Sport Fishing Competition that starts at 6am sharp. Details and entry forms are on the homepage of the club website - www.CMYC.lk.
