Sunday 10th March - Rear & Vice Commodore's race at CMYC
From the perspective of Duncan on the Bridge:
"It was a wonderful sight to see 14 boats on a shortish line with probably just 5 Knots of breeze to sail a triangle, sausage, triangle. So there was quite bit of shouting and argy bargy but the fleet got away with Anil & Michelle showing a clean pair of heels to lead from start to finish. The interesting racing was taking part in the middle of the fleet where many boats were bunched up and finished very close to each other showing that there are some major improvers in the fleet. Rob and Sarah, PJ & Richard, Mini and Toby all putting in notable performances. It was also great to have veteran sailor Trevor De Silva who put up a great showing and we hope to see more of Trevor in the future."
It was wonderful to see so many sailors return to the beautiful Bolgoda Lake to race. Thank you to Rob for encouraging everyone to join the fleet.
The Rear Commodore's race results were with Boat Handicap alone which Anil & Michelle won outright giving a sailing master class. Soon after they finished Per & Janaka were 1st runners up with Rob & Sarah close on their transom in 2nd runners up position. A gap of a few minutes followed with the rest of the fleet getting the finishing bell in quick succession.
The Vice Commodore's race were with Boat & Personal Handicap. Rob & Sarah took the top of the podium with Anil & Michelle as 1st runners up and Mini & Toby 2nd runners up
3 lasers were amongst the fleet with young Rehan doing well beating Ernst & Ramali completing her first race with great determination.
After the sailing & prize giving with Kath presenting the generous prizes from the Rear & Vice Commodores there followed an incredible roast dinner of beef, chicken, ham, lamb & all the trimmings plus indulgent puddings. Thank you especially to Gail & Rob & all their helpers for such a sumptuous feast.
There are only 3 weekends left in this year's sailing calendar.
Sunday 17th is the Lipton Cup which is open to All classes of boat where Boat Handicap will apply.
Sunday 24th the Lady Helm GP14 Trophies of RA Mess Challenge (Boat Handicap) and Clingan Shield (Boat & Personal Handicap) where crew must be carried take place.
Finally Sunday 31st March the Commodore's race.
So come & continue to enjoy the racing by taking part on & off the water. There looks to be quite some interest already in the Lady Helm race & Lipton Cup which is excellent.
Looking forward to seeing many of you back on the water. It was wonderful to have such a large and competitive fleet last Sunday.
Thank you once again to all who made it such a superb day at the club.
