Sailing on Sunday 24th June 2018 - OOD Asanka - Mission to Seamen & OTL Fleet Race
The Annual Mission to SeaFarers took place on Sunday. Asanka set the course for this and the concurrent Over The Line Fleet Race.
Mr N Sachithananthan as representative of the Mission to SeaFarers kindly attended the event and brought along Mission to SeaFarer flags for the winners.
We had 7 boats on the water. 3 of which were lasers - 4.7, Radial and Standard! Ernst was joined by the father & son team of Adam and Chris from the previous weekend as they each sailed a laser.
A stiff breeze got everyone off to a clean start & the Navy sailors who crewed for PJ and Richard led the way. Asanka set a course which explored nearly all the boundaries of the lake but even so it was completed in just under 46 minutes by PJ & Kumara for them to win the Over The Line fleet race with Boat Handicap.
Personal handicap as well as boat handicap came into play for the Mission to SeaFarers Trophy which was tied in 3rd place by Ernst in his laser & Rohithe & Chamindri. Just one second quicker Jon & Mini were runners up to Rob & Joe who took the honours for the trophy.
The club thanks Mr N Sachithananthan for coming to CMYC to present the winners with their flags and to receive a donation from the club with the club burgee.
It was fabulous to see Mohan & Ayomi at the club again. Keep an eye out for them over the next few weeks!
The day was topped off with a fish pie created by Rob & Sarah from the fish Rob had caught the day before plus accompanying rice & curries, salads & fish goujons from the home kitchens of those who came to enjoy the racing & socialising at the club.
Thank you to all who contributed to the success of the day.
