On Sunday 12th July the Mini Fleet Race took place with 4 boats on the water.
Observations from the OOD - Mini
“The small fleet set off in very light winds in the one hour long float round the lake! It was however an opportunity to practice the art of taking advantage of every little wind shift. I didn’t take into account that the current was stronger than the wind & as a consequence was pushed onto Mark 5. Taking the turns is difficult in the breathless conditions. Especially sailing single handed. To try & make up for losing the lead in such a silly way I took a deep breath later on in the race & hoisted the spinnaker which although didn’t go up cleanly I did manage to fly it. At that point I was grateful for the gentle conditions. Tharuni & Janaka were long by then & were deserving winners over the line. I took consolation in second place OTL & first place when Personal Handicap was used. PJ & Ramali took third place on the podium with Kaif & Jessica in fourth. We all made it!!”
This is the winner, Tharuni’s, experience
“Since this was my first race and I hadn’t been sailing for a very long time I expected it to be very difficult and I was nervous, but the serenity of the water calmed me down. Coach Janaka did an excellent job of giving me instructions and navigate the course. The wind wasn’t very strong which overall made it a very pleasant race !
it was an enjoyable and fun experience and a good learning opportunity for me”
Everyone came back with smiles & it was great to be back on the water.
